Piece by Piece is an ongoing project that began from a personal enquiry to understand how Goa’s sluice gates work—both as physical structures and as part of the larger Khazan landscape. These gates, timed with the lunar cycle, manage the delicate balance between salt and fresh water, shaping everyday life in the estuaries.
Through photographs, drawings, and notes, I trace the work of those who build, repair, and care for them. The project looks closely at the tools, routines, and quiet forms of knowledge that keep this system going, even as urban pressures grow.
It is an attempt to learn—piece by piece—how a long-standing relationship between people, water, and land continues to hold, shift, and adapt.
