Rai’s work includes images, text, and installations. They often explore states of inconsistency and suspension within themes of spatial negotiations, permeability, impression and erasure, recollection and amnesia. She integrates found materials, weathering, and elements of fiction, intertwining historical research with personal experiences to reflect on changing conditions of spaces or passages she inhabits. Her recent work revolves around estuarine geographies to consider an amphibious perspective and its possibilities, resonating with ambiguity, fluidity, and mutation.
Rai lives and works in Goa, India. To get in touch, write to ajgubik@gmail.com.
